Google recently unveiled Chrome for Android Beta, but it is only tailor-made for devices with Android 4.O or Ice Cream Sandwich.
Google said that the Chrome browser for Android is fast and simple like its desktop version and features seamless sign-in and sync. It is based on Chrome version 16.0.915.75 on the desktop, an update which Google has not yet released.
Chrome for Android is as fast as the desktop version. Search results are immediately loaded in the background even as you type what you are searching for.
The beta version allows users to flip or swipe between unlimited number of tabs. Google likens the experience to holding a deck of cards in the palm of your hands, each intuitive gesture will bring you to a new tab.
Other features of the Chrome for Android include:
- Link Preview: This feature automatically zooms in on links on a web page for easier selection of precise links.
- Privacy: Incognito mode for private browsing and other privacy options are included, just like Chrome on desktop. Tap on the menu icon, Settings, and then Privacy, to use this feature.
- Data Synchronization: By signing in to Chrome on Android device, you can sync bookmarks across all devices and get autocomplete suggestions on your mobile device about the sites you often visit on your computer. You can also view the tabs you left open on your laptop or desktop, which should also be signed into Chrome.
Chrome for Android Beta is now available from Android Market, in select countries including US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Spain, Japan, Korea,Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. It can only be installed on phones and tablets running Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich.
Initial reviews of Chrome for Android Beta are highly positive. As of this writing, 1,133 out of 1864 (61 per cent) users who shared their reviews gave it a perfect 5 star rating while 22 per cent gave it 4 stars.
