AntennaGate iPhone 4: More than 25 million original iPhone 4 owners can get either $15 checks or iPhone 4 bumper cases worth $30 from Apple as part of their settlement for the troublesome AntennaGate class-action lawsuit.
The settlement covers 18 different individual lawsuits which were combined into one legal suit. All the lawsuits were united in their claim that the Cupertino-based tech giant misrepresented itself by:
concealing material information in the marketing, advertising, sale, and servicing of its iPhone 4. Particularly as it relates to the quality of the mobile phone antenna and reception and related software.
All iPhone 4 owners who purchased their phone prior to February 17 will receive emails regarding the settlement. An official website, www.iPhone4Settlement.com, will be set up so owners can file their official claim and opt to pick up $15 or an iPhone bumper worth $30. Owners can make claims starting April 30 and will have 120 days from thereon to file an official claim.
The settlement can only be availed of by those who did not accept Apple’s earlier offer of a free bumper or case for the iPhone 4 from July 22, 2010 to September 30, 2010.
Ira Rothken, co-lead counsel for the plaintiffs, said that the final approval hearing is set for July 13. Upon final approval of the settlement, iPhone 4 owners who have filed claims can get their settlement soon after that hearing.
